Important Safety Reminder
Madrona is a very large school. Our staff is concerned about the safety of students at dismissal time. While we understand the many time pressures parents are under, and we recognize that some parents may find the dismissal procedures inconvenient, we ask that all parents respect our need to keep all students safe. Please be sure to follow the dismissal time protocols, which all staff are being asked to implement:
- It is important that students consistently finish the school day. Teachers find frequent and daily early dismissals very disruptive.
- Plans for after school should be known by the student before coming to school. If your student must deviate from the daily dismissal plan (including not riding the bus, having a different driver, going to an after school activity) the student must bring a written note from the parent that morning. Phone messages making different arrangements must only be used as a matter of emergency. Teachers may not have an opportunity to pick up messages about different dismissal plans prior to the end of the day.
- Parents are encouraged not to take their student out of class early, however if a student must leave campus prior to 3:50, parents must come to the office and officially sign the student out. Office staff then will call the student out of class for the early dismissal. Teachers cannot allow parents to take students early, directly from the classroom.
- Parents who come onto the campus prior to 3:30 must come to the office, sign in, wear ID and if picking your student up wait quietly in the hall.
- If a parent needs a friend, neighbor or relative to pick up a student, that must be arranged with a note or phone call and done directly through the office. Teachers cannot release students directly to other adults.
- Students may only be picked up in the designated pick-up/drop-off lane in the west parking lot. All students must be picked up on the Madrona campus – not on 236th or neighborhood side streets.
- Parents may not park near the dumpsters, nor any area marked by traffic cones. The field is open for auxiliary parking, dependent on weather and ground conditions.
Your cooperation with these safety measures is greatly appreciated and contributes to the safe and effective learning environment we are working together to provide our students!
Thank you for your support.
