Madrona K-8 prides itself on cultivating a strong community and culture, whose influence extends far beyond its students’ time within the walls of the school. An example of this is the Joe Rice Scholarship.
Joe Rice is one of the founders of Madrona K-8 school, founded in 1989. A continuation of his commitment to education is the annual Joe Rice Scholarship that was established to honor his dedication to supporting students’ pursuit of their passions while demonstrating Madrona values in their community. His objective was for students to master the core subjects, but also develop a deep sense of empathy, collaborative mentality, and leadership skills that are necessary for success in a multiage center.
The annual Joe Rice Scholarship awards $2,000 to a graduating high school senior who attended Madrona K-8 for at least (4) years and will attend an institution of higher learning the following year. The award funds are sent directly to the student’s college/university.
The application process is online and includes a short questionnaire and submission of a prompted essay addressing Madrona K-8’s impact on student experience and personal growth.
