Ms. Azim, one of the kindergarten teachers, is coordinating a recycling program in conjunction with Crayola called Crayola ColorCycle, which is an exciting program designed to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills!
The ColorCycle program has already repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the U.S. and Canada since 2013. It uses advanced plastic conversion technologies to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles, as well as generate electricity which can be used to heat homes, cook food and power vehicles.
All around Madrona, students and teachers will be collecting used markers which are ready to be discarded. You can help support their efforts by sending in used markers (even non-Crayola brands) with your children. The drop-off box is located near the office into which your child can deposit used markers. Thank you in advance for participating!
